James "Jim" Arthur Nickel

James “Jim” Arthur Nickel, age 76, of Murfreesboro, passed away on May 14, 2021 at St. Thomas Hospital Midtown in Nashville. He was a native of Chicago, Illinois and lived in Dyersburg, TN for 42 years before moving to Murfreesboro. Jim retired from management at UPS and was a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church in Dyersburg. He served in the United States Air Force. Jim was an avid Chicago Bears fan and loved to travel for Missions Trips. Jim traveled to India, Brazil and the Philippines. Jim was preceded in death by his father, William Nickel; son, Michael Nickel; sister, Chris Richards; and brother-in-law, Jerry Hestand. He is survived by his wife, Barbara Hestand Nickel; son, Mark Nickel; daughter, Candace Nickel Martin (Chad); and three grandchildren, Henderson Martin, Annsleigh Martin and Rubyellen Martin; mother and father-in-law, Benton and Waltraud Hestand; sister-in-law, Kathy George (Scot); nieces, Cara Brown (Chris), Kristie Lloyd (Eric); nephew, Ken Mifsud (Julia); great nieces and nephews, Noah Brown, Beau Brown, Lola Brown, Libby Lloyd, Jack Lloyd and Luke Lloyd. Visitation with the family will be held from 3:00 PM until 5:00 PM on Wednesday, May 19, 2021 at Jennings and Ayers Funeral Home. Chapel service will follow at 5:00 PM with Kent Shingleton officiating. Burial at Middle Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery at a later date. Honorary pallbearers, Ed Benthal, Roy Childress, Chris Brown, Eric Lloyd, Ken Mifsud, and Noah Brown. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude’s Hospital or Hillcrest Baptist Church.
