William George Hancock, Sr., also known as ‘Pop’, age 80, passed away on Saturday, January 1, 2022 at Ascension St. Thomas Rutherford Hospital. Bill and his wife Doris were members of Maples First United Methodist Church in Olive Branch, Mississippi. Bill attended Marion Military Institute. He was a Mason and Shriner at Zamora Temple in his birth town of Birmingham, AL. He was a lifelong Auburn fan. His long standing career lasted until he was hospitalized ten days ago. He was a Master in construction, working coast-to-coast. He helped construct and pour the concrete at Walt Disney World and MGM. Later he built many restaurants such as Wendy’s, Burger King, ShowBiz Pizza and other commercial businesses like Children’s World Learning Centers, and La Petite Day Care Centers. Most recently employed by Alston Construction, he built the SESAC/CMA Building in downtown Nashville. He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul Hancock, Sr. and Hazel Madeline Hoskins Hancock. Bill is survived by his wife Doris Hale Hancock; sons, William George Hancock Jr., and his wife Chrissy; Barry Joseph Hancock and his wife Catherine; daughter, Amanda ‘Mandy’ Schmidt and her husband Stu; one brother, Paul Pierce Hancock; sisters, Janyce Townley; six grandchildren, B.J., Julia, Zackary, Christina, William and Tripp; three great-grandchildren, Jayven, Kade, and Millie. He was a devoted husband, father and friend. He was deeply loved and will be missed by all who knew him. The visitation with family will be from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 8, 2022 at Jennings and Ayer’s. The celebration of life will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday with Reverend Drew Shelley officiating.
